Chef Joi’s Green Energizing Smoothie for Life
This smoothie is so rich in flavor and offers dozens of health benefits from re-energizing the body to providing vitamins and minerals needed all over the body for healthy functioning. The ginger gives this smoothie the kick while the ingredients other than the spinach give it sweetness. This is one you will make over and over again.
2 c Spinach, packed
1 c Pineapple, frozen
1 Apple, medium
½ c Carrots
4 Dates, pitted
¾ c Orange Juice
When selecting the apple to use think about the flavor profile. For instance a Granny Smith will give a tart flavor while a Braeburn will give a sweet, spicy flavor. I suggest that you choose the apple based on what you like at first and then experiment with other apples. Whichever you choose, be sure to cut the apple into wedges before adding to the smoothie.
If using a high speed blender, put all ingredients in and blend until smooth. To maintain the chill of the smoothie, you may want to blend everything except the pineapples and add those last.
If using a regular blender, I recommend you add the ingredients in the following sequence. Put the orange juice, ginger, dates and spinach in the blender. Blend for about 30 seconds or until all the spinach is blended. Then add the wedged apple and carrots. Blend until smooth. Ad the pineapple and blend until the pineapples have been blended into the smoothie.
You will notice that I do not add ice to my smoothies. I do this so that my flavors are not diluted. However, if you want to add ice, go right ahead.
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator. Be sure to mix well before drinking if stored. It should keep for up 24 hours. It may keep longer than that, but none of my smoothies have ever lasted longer than a day in my home.
